Devlog03: Production w1

Welcome back to our weekly devlog!

This week we started production! After getting the greenlight from our coaches we started straight away working to make this game a reality.

Programming

We implemented a new main menu! It's currently there as a mockup so that we have one in our cycle. This will get updated later on, but for now it will do:

"Wind's howling" -Geralt of Rivia
Indeed Geralt, the wind is blowing as our refreshed wind mechanic blew over from our prototype.
It now changes every couple seconds slightly to the right or left. All variables that can be edited as need be later on ofcourse!
The wind will be visualized later using particles but for now the arrow in the center of the screen shows you where the wind blows and thus which direction your ship will go the easiest!

Controls

The controls got a small revamp in this version. The ship still moves wherever the stick is pointing, however the speed of your ship now gets controlled by how far you're holding the joystick. This was due to player feedback and it feels a lot better than the previous iteration.

More control to the player, Huzzah!

On top of all this we have a new boost mechanic. Player feedback told us that a gradual boost where you hold the button would work better rather than a singular button press to boost for a certain amount of time.
Our new boost requires you to hold down the button but also introduces another interesting angle to it. The higher your "boost-value" is, the stronger the boost is that you receive. This will hopefully reward players who spend their valuable "boost" wisely.

Explosive changes

One of our artists has been busy creating an explosion particle

It's not implemented yet but we're certain that next week you'll be able to blow stuff up with it!

Environment

Our environmental artist worked on getting the first implementation of one of the cliffs!

Ship design

Our first ship designs have sailed in!
