Devlog07: Production 2 w2


Another week another devlog!

We're back again to show you the progress we made. This week we added a join lobby, an game over screen with scoreboard, some new and improved particles, a new event , sounds, music and more!

"Kaboom?" yes Rico, Kaboom
Our second event has been added, and it comes in with a bang! The event spawns a bunch of bombs forcing players to position correctly! 

Floating like a feather on the wind 
Supply drops now gently bob up and down on the clouds. On top of that they also slowly float down when their time is up!

Particles

Our particle artists has been hard at work this week. He has made the game feel much more polished by adding the following particles:

  • Wind: Not only can you feel the wind blowing your ship away, but now you can also see it.


  • Rain: I hope you brought your umbrella with you, we're expecting some rain.


  • Big kaboom


Join Screen

Before starting the game, players will first go to a lobby, where they can choose what ship they want to play as, and try out the controls before the game starts.


Sounds
The game now feels a lot more alive, thanks to our sound designer adding audio to the following mechanics:

  • Bomb sounds (beeping & explosions)
  • Death sound 
  • Battle Music
  • Ship Boost

Is.. Is that... A green thumb?! 

We finally placed the foliage in our scene, and it has wind! Our level is not a bunch of rocks anymore! Isn’t it wonderful? We can optimize it a bit more (like removing the leaves that face the ground), but it it’s there. 


Speaking of optimization, we received some remarks on our frame-rate last week, so we did something on that front already. Before, and with no foliage, our game was around 100fps on our laptops; now, with the foliage already in the scene, is around 200fps!
